The Lockheed P-38 Lightning

The original introduction training film for the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. In part #1, bailing out, takeoff and handeling are covered. This video has what was then state of the art graphics, now we see it as cartoon drawings. In color with some very rare footage.

This is the Planes of Fame Museum's (Chino, California) P-38J. A rare and fascinating aircraft. Only one problem; the turbocharged-muffled Allison 12-cylinder engines are just too darned quiet! You may notice a slight difference in aircraft markings between the clips; they were recently changed. But all these clips are of the very same aircraft. Enjoy the video!

The Curtis P-40 Tomahawk

Before America entered WWII the Flying Tigers were helping the Chinese defend itself against the empire of Japan. Their primary mission was to protect the Burma Road, the primary supply line for China. The Flying Tigers did beat back the Japanese. Their pilots were well seasoned and trained under Brig. General Claire Lee Chennault, who was responsible for many innovative aviation combat maneuvers.

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt

This was taken at the 2006 Planes of Fame Airshow in Chino, California. The razorback Thunderbolt is a P-47G built by Curtis and owned by the Planes of Fame Museum. The bubble-canopy Thunderbolt is Bill Klaer's P-47D that is based at Rialto, California.

The North American P-51 Mustang

This years Planes of Fame High Country Warbirds event in Valle, AZ. featured this P-51D "Spam Can". The pilots, John and Mark take turns trying to give me a haircut using the prop!

On August 6th, 1944 George Preddy
achieved a record 6 kills in 1 day. He has been labeled as the fighter pilot's pilot. The late Gen. John C. Meyer said of him that he "was just the greatest fighter pilot who ever squinted through a gunsight; he was the complete fighter pilot."

The P-51 Mustang was a long-range single-seat fighter aircraft that served with the Allied air forces during WW2. It flew mostly as a bomber escort in raids over Germany, ensuring air superiority from early 1944.

The Northrop P-61 Black Widow
The Northrop P-61 Black Widow was the first operational U.S. military aircraft designed specifically to use radar. The "Black Widow" was an all-metal, twin-engine, twin-boom, aircraft flown as a night fighter by United States Army Air Forces squadrons in the European Theater, the Pacific Theater, the CBI Theater, and the Mediterranean Theater during World War II.  On the night of 14 August 1945, a P-61B-2 of the 548th NFS named "Lady in the Dark" was unofficially credited with the last allied air victory before VJ Day. The P-61 was also modified to create the F-15 Reporter, the last piston-powered Photo-reconnaissance aircraft designed and produced for the U.S. Air Force.
